Hi there!

I am happy you found Biostatsquid😊

My name is Laura, I am a medical biotechnologist specialised in molecular pathology (basically why and how do diseases happen). In the past years I have been doing a lot of computational biology work, mainly metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis. I am really passionate about (bio)data science!

As someone with a background in biology, I know what you think when the time to analyse your results from the lab comes. It’s time to do statistics. Ugh. Boring. Difficult. No, thank you.

Well, I’m here to tell you that

Biostatistics and data analysis is fun.

Biostatistics and data analysis is easy.

And you can learn to code too!

You don’t need to be a biostatistician or computer scientist to learn how to code! Python and R are really powerful tools to analyse your data. You can extract information and statistics from your datasets really easy with a line of code, which might take otherwise several steps in Excel, for example. Or create really pretty plots, professional and publication-ready, with just a few lines. Coding is really a useful skill, and the ‘bio’ part just makes it more fun!

I’m not going to lie, if you don’t have a programming background, it’s going to take some effort and a change of mindset. But I’m telling you, it’s worth it. They will make your life infinitely easier, plus it is a great skill to have!

Believe me, the dry lab is also really fun! This is why I decided to create Biostatsquid. Data wrangling and visualisation can be very easy, and I wanted to share my experience and knowledge analysing biological datasets with you.

Hopefully you will find my posts and Youtube videos helpful. Like you, I am continuously learning. So if you find improvements to my code, please share!

Cheers and have a nice day!😊
